The Great Flood of 2014

While my family and I were out of town, the water supply line for the upstairs toilet cracked causing water to leak everywhere. A day later, when someone stopped by for a delivery, it became obvious there was a BIG problem.

A massive amount of water poured from the second story through the first floor and into the basement. Water filled light fixtures, soaked furniture, and cupboards oozed water. The ceiling sagged under the weight of the water, ready to collapse. A huge catastrophe all due to a single small water line at the back of a toilet.

We had to move out of the house and temporarily relocate to a hotel and rental unit for over eight months. Trying to maintain some semblance of regular life while dealing with insurance, demolition, reconstruction, contents, and finally returning home over eight months later was VERY stressful.

This experience reinforced my commitment to protect my home from future water damage. While exploring automation as a hobby, I discovered that combining automation with my tech savvy education and experience formulated the perfect combination to
